Geneva Gravel Pit Wants Expand and Pollute For Next 30 Years. Guess What--ALL of Your GOP Legislator

One of the largest sources of pollution and dust on the Wasatch Front is the Geneva gravel pit at the Point of the Mountain. Geneva has made application with Draper City to rezone property they own that would allow them to expand and continue mining gravel for decades to come. As another source of air pollution, dust is obviously hazardous. But in addition, mining dust contains toxic crystalline silica and an array of heavy metals. For example, we know from soil samples that the Point of the Mountain contains higher than normal concentrations of arsenic and uranium. And there isn’t a worse possible place to mine gravel than at the Point of the Mountain where the wind blows the dust constantly, alternating in both directions.

We don’t need another 30 years of dust pollution from Geneva. UPHE will be organizing resistance to this application. For the time being, we ask everyone who breathes the air on the Wasatch Front to start writing into the Draper City Council, voicing your vigorous opposition to this rezoning. To register your opposition, go to:…/Public-Comment-Form-…

You don’t have to live in Draper to comment. Geneva dust scatters throughout Salt Lake and Utah Counties.
