ESCALATING A CONTROVERSY over Rep. Mia Love’s (R. Utah) fundraising, a progressive government accountability group sent a letter to the Federal Election Commission and Justice Department this week asking that they investigate her primary season fundraising.
Ms. Love has already pledged to refund or re-designate some of the funds she raised during a primary campaign season that wasn’t competitive. In Utah, candidates can’t raise money for a primary election if they have no opponent. The group, Alliance for a Better Utah, is asking for Ms. Love to refund the entire sum of money raised during the contested period and calling for a criminal prosecution into the matter. Ms. Love’s campaign has said the money raised during the period was legitimate and dismissed the letter has a politically motivated attack.
