Was Mike Lee’s Mission in Russia to Get Their Hands Off Our Elections--Or Get Missionaries Back to P

Putin likes Mike Lee. Lee was one of only two US Senators who voted against sanctions imposed on Russia for meddling in the 2016 election.

Russia turned down visas for two other Senators on the Foreign Relations Committee. Not Lee. He got a big visa welcome from the very nasty Russian Federation Council Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Konstantin Kosachev.

Nice friend to have, Mr. Kosachev. He was among three dozen Russian government officials, oligarchs and companies the US Government hit with sanctions in 2018, for “a malign agenda” that includes malicious online campaigns.

Senator Lee says he plans to discuss religious liberty with the Russians. Perhaps he can find common ground with the Kremlin homophobes on the necessity to quench LGBTQ rights as a prerequisite to advancing religious liberty?

Likely, Senator Lee will, on the religious liberty agenda, ask Russia to once again allow missionaries to preach in Russia. Perhaps this brings an explanation for the inexplicable. Why did Mike Lee vote with Putin on refusing to sanction Russian for obvious and drastic interference in our elections? Maybe Lee wanted juice for his religious liberty talks with the Kremlin? Maybe he was willing to trade Russian election interference for a little leverage on his religious liberty arguments? Any shot that anyone in the Utah media will have the guts ask Lee if the missionary issue came up in the Russian talks? Any shot Lee will be forthright in his answer?
